- Overview
- Recommended Products
- High reactivity, good heat resistance, excellent electrical properties, and a fast reaction rate. Suitable for applications requiring rapid curing and cured materials with good electrical and thermal performance.
- Excellent compatibility with epoxy resins and a simple blending process. It has no volatile emissions at room temperature, a mild odor, and low toxicity.
- However, it has a short pot life. After being mixed with epoxy resin, it may gradually gel within several hours even at room temperature, making long-term storage as a one-component product with conventional epoxy resin difficult.
- Electronic Encapsulation and PCBs: electronic encapsulation adhesives, LED encapsulation compounds, semiconductor protective coatings, flexible copper-clad laminate (FCCL) adhesives, prepregs, and solder mask inks.
- One-Component Epoxy Adhesives and Composites: structural adhesives, wind turbine blades, and aerospace composites.
- May cause skin sensitization; harmful if swallowed; causes serious eye damage. Wear safety goggles and nitrile gloves during handling. Work in a well-ventilated area and avoid direct skin contact.
- Hygroscopic. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place (recommended temperature: 5–30°C). Protect from light and moisture, keep away from heat sources and open flames, and do not store or transport together with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, or strong alkalis.
- Its melting point is close to ambient temperature (41–54°C as stated in the source material). During cold seasons, it may crystallize or become more viscous. Before use, gently warm it in warm water and stir until uniform; this does not affect product quality. The COA for the delivered batch should be used as the reference.
1. Product Overview
2-Ethyl-4-methylimidazole (2E4MI, 2E4MZ, or EMI-24) consists of an imidazole ring with ethyl and methyl side chains at the 2- and 4-positions, respectively. It appears as white to pale-yellow crystals at room temperature and often presents as a supercooled, viscous liquid. It has excellent compatibility with epoxy resins and is a typical medium-temperature curing agent/accelerator. 2E4MZ is commonly used as a curing accelerator in copper-clad laminates (FR-4/dicyandiamide, or DICY, systems), epoxy molding compounds (EMCs), one-component epoxy adhesives, electronic encapsulation materials, and prepregs.
