1. Product Overview
4,5-Dihydroxymethyl-2-phenylimidazole (2PHZ) is a substituted imidazole compound containing two active hydroxymethyl groups. It appears as a pale peach (light pink) powder and is commonly supplied in an ultrafine powder form. It offers good dispersibility, excellent curing performance, a high melting point, superior heat resistance, and low dielectric properties. It can be used as a latent curing agent or curing accelerator in one-component epoxy systems.
The two hydroxymethyl groups in its molecular structure work synergistically with the phenyl group. The hydroxymethyl groups improve compatibility with epoxy resins and broaden the curing temperature window, while the phenyl group contributes to higher heat resistance and dimensional stability. This enables 2PHZ to maintain a long pot life in formulated systems while achieving rapid and deep curing at elevated temperatures, thereby improving the glass transition temperature (Tg) and resistance to damp-heat aging of the finished products.
